The Best Locations for an Elopement in São Miguel
One of the biggest advantages of eloping here is the diversity of locations. Depending on your vision, we can create something completely unique.
Sete Cidades – Iconic & Breathtaking
A true postcard of the Azores. Twin lakes surrounded by volcanic cliffs create one of the most iconic backdrops in Portugal. It’s not just a volcano, it’s a Volcanic Complex with several craters in which some of them, turned into lakes along thousands of years.
Lagoa do Fogo – Wild & Untouched
Perfect for couples who love raw nature. Less accessible and more unpredictable — which makes it even more special. Part of the “Natura 2000” network, this location is a protected special conservation zone.
Furnas – Volcanic & Atmospheric
With fumaroles, hot springs and lush gardens, Furnas offers a completely different and almost mystical setting.
Hidden Gems – Away from the Crowds
Altought the Azores are becoming a trend with more and more visitors, this is where having a local guide makes all the difference. There are countless lesser-known spots that offer some kind of privacy and a more intimate experience.
So, what It’s Like to Elope in the Azores?
Eloping in São Miguel is not about perfection — it’s about authenticity.
The weather can change quickly, mist can roll in unexpectedly, and sunlight may break through at just the right moment. These elements don’t ruin the experience — they elevate it.
You’re not just taking photos.
You’re living a moment that feels real, emotional and uniquely yours.
A simple kiss, surrounded by nature — no crowds, no rush, just your moment
Why Hiring a Local Photographer Makes All the Difference
Planning an elopement in a place you’ve never visited can feel overwhelming. That’s where working with a local photographer becomes essential. Beyond photography, I help couples with:
- Location selection based on light, weather and privacy;
- Timing and logistics throughout the day;
- Guidance during the session (so you feel natural and relaxed);
- Access to hidden spots most visitors never find.
What makes my approach different is the combination of photographer + local guide — a 2-in-1 experience that allows you to explore the island while capturing your story. If you're curious about how this works in practice, you can also explore my half-day photo experience or full-day phototour, which many couples choose for their elopement.

Tips for Planning Your Elopement in the Azores
A few key things to keep in mind:
Best time of the year
June to August is perfect for hydrangeas in bloom, but the island is beautiful year-round. But if you are considering comming in a off-season period, I would suggest September & October. Wether is stil stable and more predictale.
Weather flexibility is essential
Conditions can change quickly — and that’s part of the magic.
Dress for comfort and wind
Even in summer, temperatures can drop in higher altitudes,as for example on the main Lakes ( Furnas, 7 Cidades, Fogo)
Timing matters
Sunrise and sunset offer the best light, not only for the so called “Golden Hour” but also moments earlier where the light can create flatering and soft shades on your skin.
Quiet moments like this are what make an Azores elopement truly unforgettable
