As a photographer based in the Azores, I have the privilege of meeting incredible people from all over the world. But this session was unforgettable. Not only because of their genuine connection and love for each other, but also because of the story they brought with them.
To mark this important milestone, she even brought a wedding dress — not the original one, but one chosen just for this moment. We wandered through some of the island’s most iconic landscapes, including the legendary Miradouro da Grota do Inferno. Although the viewpoint was covered in fog that day, we turned around and found a stunning composition — proving once again that the Azores never disappoint.
Their laughter, their tenderness, and the dramatic backdrop of São Miguel created a perfect combination. It wasn’t just a photo session; it was an experience — a way to relive their love story in a truly unforgettable location.

The Unpredictable Beauty of Azores Weather
One of the most fascinating things about the Azores is how quickly the weather can change. Known for their lush greenery, volcanic lakes, and dramatic landscapes, the islands owe much of their beauty to the frequent rain — sometimes even in the middle of summer.
This ever-changing climate means that each photo session becomes truly unique. On the day of this couple’s anniversary shoot, we set out to capture the breathtaking view from Grota do Inferno (also known as Janela do Inferno) in Sete Cidades, one of the most iconic viewpoints in São Miguel. But the mountaintop was completely covered in fog.

The fog added a dreamy, cinematic mood to the photos — softening the light, enhancing the greens of the forest, and creating an atmosphere that felt both intimate and magical. That’s the true charm of the Azores: no matter the weather, the islands always offer something unforgettable.
From Volcanoes to the Coastline: A Perfect Contrast
After capturing the beauty of the volcanic landscapes, forests, and lagoons of Sete Cidades, we decided to change scenery and head to the coast. The Azores are full of contrasts, and in just a short drive, you can go from dense, green highlands to dramatic ocean views.
We made our way to the Mosteiros region, on the western coast of São Miguel. Known for its black sand beaches and iconic rock formations rising from the sea, this area offered a completely different backdrop for the final part of our session.
There, with the sound of the waves and the wind in her dress, we continued telling their love story — this time surrounded by the raw beauty of the Atlantic. The combination of ocean, cliffs, and volcanic rock made for truly striking images that felt both wild and romantic.
